On successful completion, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for:

HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid (which includes HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and HLTAID010 – Provide basic emergency life support) All statements of attainment are issued in line with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and are nationally recognised.

Face-to-face: 1-day (approx. 6–8 hours including assessment)

Blended delivery: Online theory component + 4–5 hours practical assessment

Course overview

This course covers the core competencies to:

Assess emergency situations and provide a timely and effective response

Apply life-saving techniques including CPR (HLTAID009), use of AED

(automated external defibrillators), and management of bleeding, shock, fractures, burns, and medical conditions

Communicate clearly with emergency services and relevant stakeholders

Maintain accurate incident documentation and workplace reporting requirements

Reflect on and evaluate first aid responses for continuous improvement

Entry requirements

No formal prerequisites

Participants must have the physical ability to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a manikin placed on the floor

Basic English language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLN&D) skills are required

Public Safety Training & Response Group conducts an LLN&D assessment prior to enrolment, in accordance with our commitment to inclusive access and learner support.

Assessment methods

Assessment includes:

Practical demonstration of first aid skills

Role-plays and simulated scenarios

Multiple choice and short-answer theory questionsd

Workplace or simulated environment incident documentation

Stay current – stay compliant

As recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council, CPR should be refreshed every 12 months and First Aid every 3 years.
